Android phones and tablets (Samsung Galaxy, Motorola Droid, Moto X, etc) have many ways and apps to help bring your email with you. Follow these guides to correctly setup and configure your mobile email for most apps using either IMAP (recommended), POP3, or if available ActiveSync.

Setup Android IMAP

Using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) you can view and manipulate messages from your Android smartphone and other devices as if they were on your main computer. This is the recommended option for multi-device users - tablet, phone, etc.

Needed information:

  • Your email address (user@example.com)
  • Your email password
  • The hostname of your mail server, we will be using our hosted mail server for this guide: mail.greenviewdata.com
  • IMAP - 993 (incoming)

Installation and Setup IMAP

Please be aware these steps may vary between manufacturers, device or other apps.

1. In your Android App list, tap the Settings icon.

2. Depending on the phone, tap Accounts & sync or Accounts.

3. Tap Add account.

After you have performed the installation process and your Zimbra account is installed, it will display on this screen and you can edit the account from here.

4. This will bring you to a page with the type of accounts you can create, depending on the phone tap Email or Corporate / Corporate Email.

5. Enter your Email address and Password to add an account:

Email Address
This is your company email address (for example, user@example.com)
Password
This is your Zimbra password (the same one used for the Zimbra Web Client)

Tap Manual Setup or Next.

6. Tap IMAP Account

7. Enter server settings:

Email Address
This is your company email address (user@example.com)
Domain\username
Use your domain and then the user from your email address (example.com/user)
Password
This is your Zimbra password (the same one used for the Zimbra Web Client)
Incoming Server
mail.greenviewdata.com
Security Type
SSL
Port
993
Outgoing Server
mail.greenviewdata.com
Security Type
SSL
Port
465

Tap Sign in.

8. Configure your email account options, such as Sync Schedule and Sync Calendar, as you see fit. Once complete tap Next.

9. If presented with an 'Activate device administrator' screen, tap Activate.

10. Your account set up is complete. You can optionally give this account a name and then tap Done.

11. After your account is completely set up, you can access your mail on the Email app.

Setup Android POP3

POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) allows you to download messages to view and manipulate onto your Android smartphones and other devices. Messages can be read offline, but not recommended for multi-device users. If you plan to use your email with more than one device it is highly recommended to use IMAP.

Needed information:

  • Your email address (user@example.com)
  • Your email password
  • The hostname of your mail server, we will be using our hosted mail server for this guide: mail.greenviewdata.com
  • POP3 - 995 (incoming)

Installation and Setup POP3

Please be aware these steps may vary between manufacturers.

Setup Android ActiveSync

Android smartphones and other devices natively sync email, contacts, and calendars with Zimbra email accounts. Assuming these requirements are met, you can set up Zimbra just like you would a Microsoft Exchange account on your mobile device. Microsoft Exchange this is the name used for any ActiveSync-based service.

  • Your email address
  • Your email password
  • The hostname of your mail server, we will be using our hosted mail server for this guide: mail.greenviewdata.com

Note: Zimbra Mobile supports Android release 2.1 and later.


Installation and Setup ActiveSync

Please be aware these steps may vary between manufacturers.

7. Enter server settings:

Email Address

Use your domain and then the user from your email address (example.com/user)
Password
This is your Zimbra password (the same one used for the Zimbra Web Client)
Exhange Server
mail.greenviewdata.com

Check Use SSL or Use Secure Connection (SSL) Tap Next.

8. Configure your email account options, such as Sync Schedule and Sync Calendar, as you see fit. Once complete tap Next.
