HIPAA Compliance - HITECH Breaches 08/2012

Section 13402(e)(4) of the HIPAA HITECH Act requires the Secretary of HHS to post a list of breaches of unsecured protected health information (PHI) affecting 500 or more individuals. The following reported breaches have been posted as of this date.

Liberty Resources

A laptop computer belonging to Liberty Resources, Inc. (LRI) containing personal information of over 3,000 individuals was stolen recently, according to HHS and LRI.

LRI claims that files on the stolen computer had consumer names, medicaid numbers and summary administrative data, but not addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, or birth dates.

Lana Medical Care

A laptop computer was apparently stolen from Lana Medical Care in Florida, which notified about 500 patients, according to HHS records. No other information regarding the potential breach was found.

Tricounty Behavioral Health Clinic

Tricounty Behavioral Health Clinic reported the theft of a laptop computer, potentially exposing the protected halth information of about 4,000 individuals, according to HHS records. No other information regarding the potential breach was found.
