Healthcare Data May Be Safer in the Cloud

Transformation Forecast

In her "Healthcare Transformation Forecast", Ms. Conway looks at a variety of issues, including:

  • The history of the cloud
  • Creating collaborative networks
  • Economical and scalable strategy
  • Developing a cloud strategy

Apparently, some have already moved data, email and applications to the cloud or are planning to do so. This may be partially due to the recognition that getting sensitive data storage out of your building can be safer and more secure.

"...most data breaches in healthcare involve data stored in hardware onsite"

Given the seemingly increasing number of reported data breaches involving locally stored data and emails, one can't help but wonder what is holding healthcare providers back. A Massachusetts hospital has apparently agreed to pay $750,000 for a 2010 data breach affecting more than 800,000 consumers.
