What is the difference between POP and IMAP?
It is important to understand the basics of how your particular e-mail program handles sending and receiving e-mail. When you set up your e-mail reader, it may ask you if you wish to use IMAP or POP. The main difference between POP (Post Office Protocol) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is the ability to download your e-mail to your computer or portable device or leave it on the Greenviewdata e-mail server.
POP is generally used to store your e-mail on your computer or portable device, and IMAP is generally used to keep the e-mail on the server. The benefit of IMAP is that you can read your e-mail from any system, any computer or mobile device, but you must be online. POP's advantage is that you can read your e-mail "offline" because it is downloaded to your computer. There is no "right" or "wrong" protocol to choose; you simply must choose the method that works best for you.

Do you provide email forwarding, email aliases, and auto-responders?
All Greenviewdata email accounts come with these features. Not sure what these features are? Read on for a short description of what they can do for your email:
- Email forwarding: This simple to use tool allows you to forward email from your hosted email account to any other email address on the Internet. For example, if you had an email address for your website but wanted to read the mail at your Hotmail email account, you simply create the forward using the tool available in our Hosting Control Panel.
- Email aliases: An email alias is a nick name for your email account. You set up a fake name (such as info@yourname.com), but email sent there actually goes into an email box of your choosing (such as joe@yourname.com). This allows you to create unlimited email "names," without using multiple email boxes.
- Auto-responders: Create an automatic response that will be sent to people emailing you. Our customers like to use this feature when they are going on vacation, or when their business needs to let customers know their message has been received.
How can I configure a auto-responder using your service?
Below are the steps to enable a auto-responder for your account. You must be logged into the web interface to make the following changes:
- Click on "Preferences".
- Select "Mail" on the left side.
- Go to the second section named "Receiving Messages"
- Place a check next to "Send auto-reply message:"
- Place your message in the text box.
- Configure your out of office dates below.
- You must click "Save" towards the top to enable.
What is a "catchall" account?
A "catchall" account is an account that will catch any e-mail that's sent to a non-existing account under your domain. Instead of bouncing the e-mail back to the sender, it'll store the e-mail into the account that's assigned as the "catchall" account.
Only one user of your domain can have the "catchall" account assigned to them. At this time you will need to contact our support staff to create this type of account for you.
